No Matter the Letters, We are Greek Together.

We Are A Greek Community.

At DePauw University, "greek" does not mean Panhllenic sororities; "Greek" does not mean Interfraternity Council fraternities. Greek life should not consist of terms like "majority greek" or "minority greek," and not every sorority or fraternity needs a house or council to give them value. Members of Greek life at DePauw University should be made to feel empowered and part of a community that promotes growth--they should not be made to feel lesser because of the letters they wear.

But unfortunately at DePauw University, some do.

With Service Week beginning September 8th and the long-awaited Greek Week kicking-off the week after that, the Panhellenic Council excitedly anticipates this 2 week event. These events show off just some aspects that make Greek Life so great: philanthropy, service, and creating close bonds with others in our community. Yet Greek Week is not conducted by one council alone.

The Panhellenic Council is just one part of the Greek community at DePauw University. Panhellenic collaborates with the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, the Multicultural Greek Council, and Psi Lamda Xi for Greek Week. Together these councils and local chapter accomplish some of the most out-reaching and significant philanthropy events, represent some of the most diverse, accomplished students on campus, and offer some of the strongest academic minds and support at DePauw.

The Panhellenic Council is excited to embark on the year ahead fully supporting our fellow greek councils, our Independent Council, and fellow local sorority. We are a part of something bigger than recruitment, bigger than parties, bigger than houses, or member totals, or competition. We are a Greek Community and the Panhellenic Council implores you to embrace it.

Panhellenic Initiation

Above: Newly Initiated Panhellenic
Women received these party favors
Panhellenic women from all 6 chapters on DePauw University's campus celebrated the new initiation of their members on April 4th.

The new members of every Panhellenic sorority were initiated into the Panhellenic community by the Panhellenic Executive Council among their peers in Meherry Hall of East College.

The ceremony officially recognizes the new members of the Panhellenic sororities as Panhellenic women.

The Panhellenic Executive Council would like to congratulate the women of the Panhellenic community for their new members!

River Huston Comes to DePauw!

River Huston

River Huston is a sex educator and college speaker, as well as an award winning poet, journalist, performer and activist. She travels throughout the United States speaking at colleges, conferences, corporate events on issues related to communication, self-esteem and overcoming challenges.  The Panhellenic Executive Council brought Huston to DePauw University once again because they believed it is important to bring the women of DePauw's campus together to learn how to overcome some of the most difficult situations in life with grace, dignity and our humor in tact.

River Huston was a brilliant speaker not only because of the ease with which she talked about the most pressing and difficult issues women must overcome, but also because of how she talked about these serious topics in such a humorous way. River Huston has an amazing gift to move audiences to laugh as well as to cry with her stories, demonstrations, and the overall interactive nature of her presentations. DePauw University's women were truly honored to have had an opportunity to see her.

Love Them Like Your Sisters

The Panhellenic Community would like to remind its members of the values we all share concerning hazing.
Love your sisters like your sisters. Don't Haze.

Hazing (B1969, 1977, 1979, 1997)
Hazing is defined as any action or situation with or without consent that recklessly, intentionally or unintentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, or creates risk of injury, or causes discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule or that willfully destroys or removes public or private property for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in, a chapter or colony of an NPC member fraternity. Such activities and situations include, but are not limited to, creation of excessive fatigue; physical and psychological shocks; publicly wearing apparel that is conspicuous and not normally in good taste; engaging in public stunts and jokes; participating in treasure or scavenger hunts; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; late-night sessions that interfere with scholastic activities or normal sleep patterns; and any other activities that are not consistent with fraternal law, ritual or the regulations and policies of the member fraternity or the educational institution. All member groups will affirm their policies on hazing and inform their membership of this NPC position on hazing through mailings and through their inter/national.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL BADGE DAY TO DEPAUW PANHELLENIC WOMEN!
Monday, March 5th, 2012
"Wear Your Letters on Your Heart!"

Fun Fact:

The celebration to honor sisterhood was started in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference. The date is generally recognized during March, which is also National Women’s History Month and set aside for International Women’s Day. The inaugural campaign was titled: “It’s as Simple as Wearing your Pin ... With Pride.”

Thank you for your participation and for representing the DePauw Panhellenic Community so well!

WELCOME TO THE DEPAUW UNIVERSITY PANHELLENIC BLOG!

Now that we as Panhellenic Executive Council members have settled into our respective positions, we would like to take a moment to let you know how excited we are for our new roles as Greek community leaders.
